Julie grew up with a passion for baking and began her culinary education and career as a baker at the age of thirteen. She started Fake Cakery while in college, making sculptures out of her childhood bedroom. After the introduction of the Cake Grinder, the business quickly grew due to social media virality. Today, her business specializes in producing realistic-looking dessert themed functional art, ranging from cosmetic mirrors to ashtrays.
While studying for my film degree in art school, I worked as a baker in a bakery and grew tired of the kitchen. At the same time, I began making fake cake sculptures inspired by a childhood toy and sold them on Depop for some extra cash. Eventually I grew out of Depop and had to switch to a more serious platform and made my own website. In 2022, I decided to do a small launch on 420 with a limited edition collection of smoking products, and it almost instantly went viral from there. Today, I work full time out of my art studio handmaking and designing while finishing up my degree.
